I have never tried this line before but it seems everyone is raving about the how these products have transformed their skin just from one or two applications. As I was perusing the list of ingredients, I realized why they are so effective. I’m no scientist but from the research I’ve done in the past, these products contain ingredients that prepare the skin to absorb more moisture into the deeper layers of the skin AND then seal the moisture into the skin as compared to so many other products, which only affect the surface of the skin. Products with these ingredients will generally instruct the user to immediately apply moisturizer as their final step in their skincare regimen because now that the skin is prepped to retain moisture, the moisturizer will be absorbed thoroughly and sealed into the skin allowing one to gain the full benefits of the moisturizer. The skin immediately becomes plump, any fine fines are greatly reduced, the increased circulation of blood causes the skin to glow, illuminate, and there’s an all around appearance of more youthful looking skin. There’s nothing worse than spending a fortune on skincare products only to realize that just a tiny portion of the product is actually absorbed and retained. I am dying to try these products particularly this cleansing gel because as compared to most cleansers which strip the skin of moisture, this one does the opposite. To me, the cleanser is the most important part of your skincare regimen for if the skin is not well cleansed, any products used thereafter will be much less effective because it won’t be able to get where it needs to go, which is as deep as possible into the interior of the 7 layers of skin we all have. The name ShaToBu comes from a combination of the words “shaping” (tummy shaping), “toning” (muscle toning), and “burning” (calorie buring), just three of the benefits that ShaToBu products offer with regular wear.

ShaToBu’s attractive line of shapewear employs “resistance band technology” that ShaToBu claims will help users burn extra calories while going about their daily activities.  Some details from the ShaToBu website:

Sounds like a pretty good deal, no?  When ShaToBu offered me the opportunity to pick out an item of my choice, I opted for the Shaping Tights ($36) in the “steel” color.   As someone who wears tights on on nearly a daily basis anyway, I figure there can’t be any harm in at least trying these out!

These are definitely tights that I would wear on a regular basis; the color selection is neutral (jet black, brown, steel) and simple to match with everyday wear.  The “steel” color I selected is a very sensible shade of opaque, dark gray that works well with any color clothing or shoes.

From the picture above, you can see the areas of the product which the resistance bands are build into due to their more opaque color and tighter weave.  This does leaves a visible demarcation line between the tighter areas on the thigh and the regular legging portion (as most, if not all, shapewear does), however, the line itself is placed nicely so that it doesn’t peek out from under skirts or shorts.

In terms of fit, I found that the product was a lot more comfortable than I was expecting!  It didn’t feel super constricting and was quite comfortable, so much so that after some time I forgot that I was even wearing them.  The thigh and legging areas also blend seamlessly and smoothly together leaving behind no lumpy areas, just a super smooth silhouette!

While the shaping tights are also available in a high waist version, the ShaToBu High Waist Shaping Tight ($38), I’m quite short so I thought the high waist may be too high since regular waist tights have usually ended up high waisted for me.  However, because the top portion of the these tights are a bit less stretchy than the average pair of tights (due to the resistance bands), these fall normally on the waist (rather then up my ribcage like most).  Even if you are on the shorter side like me, you could definitely go for the high waist version without a problem.

The Serenity Itty Bitty Modern Talisman features a tiny rectangle hand-stamped with the word “SERENITY”, along with a wire wrapped amethyst gemstone, and a 14k gold plated wave.  One reason I chose the Serenity Itty Bitty Modern Talisman is I am a recovered alcoholic and I learned the Serenity Prayer while getting sober.  I used to say it over and over when times were rough, just trying to make it one more day.  I still say it when times are rough or when I’m depressed and I strive for serenity in my life every day.  The amethyst is actually a symbol for recovering alcoholics because it literally means “without drunkeness”.  Of course anyone can love this necklace for how beautiful it is and to bring a little serenity in your life, whether you’re in recovery or not.  I am sure Amy Peters probably didn’t make it for the intentions of it being worn as recovery jewelry but I found it quite fitting!  I also love the tiny gold wave on the necklace.  I find the sound of the ocean very calming, and actually use that sound most nights on my sound machine to go to sleep.  Amy Peters’ Studio has several other Itty Bitty Modern Talismans including Inspiration, Strength, Growth, Hope, Success, Wisdom, and Courage.
